If your PhD position was funded by a scholarship, your PhD programme does not qualify you for unemployment benefit.  If you have studied full-time, the PhD studies can be disregarded.  If you have had an employment before starting your PhD studies, we may be able to base your unemployment benefit on that work.

How your PhD has been financed is not important when it comes to whether or not you are considered unemployed. The important thing is that you have ended your studies.

Register your bank account number at www.swedbank.se/kontoregister in order to receive your unemployment benefit. You do not need to have an account with Swedbank, but we use Swedbank to pay out the benefit. If you have not registered your account at Swedbank, you will receive a payment voucher by post.

When you meet with arbetsförmedlingen, you will make an action plan (handlingsplan) where your experiences and qualifications will be matched with corresponding professions. First and foremost you should apply for jobs that match your qualifications and experiences. However, if there are few jobs available within your field, you need to widen your search.

How much would you get?

Calculate how much benefits you would get per day.

Your average monthly income the past year:
The compensation is based on your income in the last year. We always base it on 12 months, even though you may have worked less.
Each benefit period is preceded by seven qualifying days, for which you cannot receive any benefits.
First 7 days:

Day 1-100 you can become 80 percent of your salary up to SEK 25,000. If you have an extra insurance at the union you can get more.
Day 1-100:

Day 101-200 the maximum payment per day is SEK 760. The compensation level is still 80 percent.
Day 101-200:

Day 201-300 the compensation level is reduced to 70 percent. The maximum daily allowance is still SEK 760.
Day 201-300*:
